What exactly does steam-cooked mean?

Steam is the gentlest form of cooking; therefore the steam cooker is also so successful in kitchens around the world. Steam in combination with pressure quickly and effectively increases the digestibility of starch or other otherwise indigestible raw materials and maintains the palatability and Consistency.

Why do you say the cans are overcooked?

Cans are traditionally sterilized in a process called autoclaving. The closed cans are heated at temperatures >130°C for a long time (60-120 minutes) at high pressure. This takes so long because the product has to be heated slowly from the outside to the inside until it reaches the core. The outer layer is prone to “burning” until the core finally reaches the necessary temperature above the time has come. We humans don't normally eat canned meat either.

Please explain the “90% less waste” to me in a little more detail!

90% refers to the weight (and volume) of the portion bag compared to the can. The can weighs around 50g, the bag only 3g for an item weighing 400g. The can is bulky and takes up a lot of space, the bag is flat and light.

I thought aluminum cans were the most sustainable option?

Aluminium is a very high-quality metal that should only be used for long-lasting weight-loss products. It is rare and has to be mined at great expense. The recycling process also requires significantly more energy and effort than for portion bags.

And why is the monomaterial portion bag so much better now?

The portion bag made of monomaterial from FAiRFRESH is a breakthrough in packaging technology because it is completely recyclable. Thanks to FAiRFRESH's unique production process, we can use monomaterial bags effectively. Other manufacturers have to rely on multi-layer bags or so-called "multi-layer films", which are hardly or not at all recyclable and can therefore only be used for thermal recycling in the waste incineration plant. The recyclability protects resources and also ensures that the product is optimally packaged. Compared to a can, we save 90% CO2 because the can has to be melted down at 1200°C.

Why don't you use glasses?

Glass is a very heavy packaging material that can only be shipped with great effort and breaks easily. It has to be melted at high temperatures and a main raw material for glass (sand) is in short supply. Glass should therefore be used primarily in
long-lasting products such as drinking glasses and reusable bottles.
